The City of Eternal Spring

ree

Medellín, affectionately called the "City of Eternal Spring," blends vibrant culture, lush green mountains, and modern city vibes, making it a dream spot for digital nomads like us. Nestled in the Andes, Medellín enjoys a pleasant climate year-round, but the best times to visit are December to March and July to September when the weather is sunnier. The rainy seasons, April to June and October to November, aren't too intense—usually just quick showers that won't ruin your plans.

Getting to Medellín is easy, thanks to the José María Córdova International Airport, about a 40-minute ride from the city center. Canadians don't need a visa for stays up to 90 days, making life simpler for us nomads. As for safety, Medellín has come a long way. It's generally safe, but as in any city, just stay alert. Stick to popular neighborhoods like El Poblado, Laureles, or Envigado, especially at night, and keep your belongings secure. Colombians are super friendly—saying "buenos días" or "gracias" is a great way to blend in and show respect.

Reliable Wi-Fi is crucial for our digital nomad lifestyle, and thankfully Medellín delivers. Cafés, coworking spots, and Airbnbs in popular neighborhoods usually have excellent internet, averaging speeds between 50-150 Mbps. Budget-wise, Medellín is friendly on the wallet, especially if you're using Canadian dollars in 2025. Comfortable Airbnbs in great areas typically cost around CAD $800-$1,200 per month. Daily expenses, including meals, transportation, and fun activities, average about CAD $30-50 per day. But the city also has plenty of opportunities for occasional splurges, like fancy dinners or memorable adventures.

Speaking of food, Medellín's food scene is amazing. From street-side empanadas for just CAD $1-2 to upscale restaurants serving delicious Colombian and international dishes for CAD $20-$40 per meal, there's something for everyone. Don't miss local favorites like bandeja paisa, arepas, and the endless variety of exotic fruits at local markets. For adventures, take a day trip to the stunning Piedra del Peñol in Guatapé, explore Comuna 13’s vibrant street art, or ride the Metrocable for spectacular views of the city. Our tip? Spend time checking out the cool coworking cafés and lively nightlife—it's easy to fall in love with the Medellín lifestyle!
