Wander the cobblestone streets and you'll encounter charming cafes serving up aromatic coffee and freshly baked pastries, inviting you to savor the morning. For a taste of Guatemala's culinary traditions, indulge in hearty dishes like pepián (a spicy meat stew) or kak'ik (a traditional Mayan turkey soup), served with a side of rice and black beans. Alternatively, explore the fusion of flavors at restaurants offering international cuisine, ranging from Italian trattorias to Asian-inspired eateries. Los Tres Tiempos
Los Tres Tiempos in Antigua, Guatemala, is a culinary gem nestled within the historic city center. This charming restaurant offers a delightful blend of traditional Guatemalan flavors with a contemporary twist, served in a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Their menu showcases a diverse selection of dishes, from classic favorites like chiles rellenos to innovative creations that highlight local ingredients. For a memorable dining experience, we highly recommend trying their tasting menu, which allows you to sample a variety of their signature dishes while enjoying the warm hospitality that Los Tres Tiempos is known for.
Casa Escobar Antigua
This restaurant was my favourite in all of Antigua. Casa Escobar restaurant in Antigua, Guatemala, exudes elegance and charm, nestled within a colonial-style building adorned with lush greenery. Offering a sophisticated ambiance and a menu that is so delicious. Guatemalan cuisine with a modern twist, Casa Escobar invites guests to indulge in culinary delights while soaking in the enchanting atmosphere of Antigua. I recommend trying the steaks and margaritas!
Pappy's BBQ
Pappy's BBQ in Antigua, Guatemala, is a haven for lovers of smoky, tender meats and hearty barbecue fare. Situated in a laid-back setting, Pappy's delivers mouthwatering dishes such as slow-cooked ribs, brisket, and pulled pork, all infused with authentic Southern flavors. Don't miss out on their signature platter, featuring a generous assortment of smoked meats paired with classic sides like coleslaw and cornbread, guaranteeing a satisfying and indulgent dining experience.
Excursions
During our time in Guatemala, a group of friends joined us for an unforgettable adventure. Together, we embarked on an excursion that truly pushed me out of my comfort zone. Our destination? The towering volcanoes of Acatenango and Fuego.
With 25-pound hiking bags strapped to our backs, we embarked on the arduous trek up Volcano Acatenango. The journey was challenging, taking us approximately 8 hours to reach the basecamp. Yet, despite the physical strain, the breathtaking scenery and camaraderie among our group fueled our determination.
Upon reaching basecamp, we were afforded some much-needed time to rest and rejuvenate. As evening descended, we faced a pivotal decision: to continue our ascent to the neighboring volcano, Fuego. With encouragement from our guides and fellow adventurers, we seized the opportunity to push ourselves even further.
Reflecting on our experience, we cannot recommend Wicho & Charlie's Volcano Tours highly enough. Their expertise, guidance, and unwavering support made this once-in-a-lifetime journey both challenging and deeply rewarding, leaving us with memories to last a lifetime.
